MARATHON FUNDRAISING EFFORT
14 May 2008
New Life Centre Nepal Many congratulations to our Responsible Tourism Manager, Niki Morgan, who ran the Forest of Dean half marathon in April raising the impressive sum of £400 for the New Life Centre Orphanage in Nepal.

The orphanage in Kathmandu is run by one of HK's past clients and we are helping raise funds towards their goal of £90,000 to build a purpose-built residential centre. This new centre, the first stage of which is being built early this year, will mean that the centre will be more sustainable long term, with money being spent on the children and their education, rather than rent. The first stage will accommodate the existing 30 children and basic amenities. The 2nd stage will provide facilities such as library/study room, offices, physiotherapy room and volunteers’ accommodation.

IMPROVED ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT
11 April 2008
After 21 years of offering our classic Annapurna Circuit trek we have recently changed the itinerary to avoid the road being built along the spectacular Kali Gandaki gorge. The route has been revised between Muktinath and Ghorepani and now follows footpaths through pretty villages away from the road, but returns to the traditional circuit villages for overnight lodge stays.

Departures: 28 Sep-21 Oct, 5 Oct-28 Oct, 12 Oct-4 Nov
£1,725 (including international flights) or £1,195 land-only

NEPAL VOTES FOR A NEW FUTURE
11 April 2008
Towards Ramche Voting has now closed in the landmark elections that are the culmination of the peace process in Nepal. There was a high turnout with the Nepalese people keen to vote for a new assembly, which will rewrite the constitution, and most likely abolish the Nepal’s centuries-old monarchy.
Polling has generally been peaceful, and final results are expected to be announced in the next few weeks.

TIBET TOURIST PERMIT RESTRICTIONS
07 April 2008
On 3 April the Tibet Tourism Bureau had announced that tourists would be able to enter Tibet again from 01 May 2008. Unfortunately this is no longer certain. We will continue to monitor the latest developments and news from the region and hope to be able to run Tibet trips due to depart later in the year as planned.

Please do check our website regularly or ring us on 0845 330 8579 for the latest information on trips to Tibet

THE WORLD'S NEWEST DEMOCRACY
26 March 2008
The Bhutan Peace and Prosperity Party (Druk Phuensum Tshogpa) were the overwhelming winners of the first parliamentary elections, which took place in Bhutan on the 24th March. The well-organised election was a big success, turn-out was almost 80% with voters wearing traditional national dress.

The much-loved King will continue as head of state and the staunchly pro-monarchist new government remains committed to the Bhutanese philosophy of Gross National Happiness.

EXTRA DEPARTURE - CULTURAL TOUR OF BHUTAN & TIBET

A GOOD YEAR FOR FUNDRAISING
29 February 2008
Children in Nepal We are always incredibly impressed with the generosity of our clients and 2007 was no exception as we received almost £3,700 in donations to the various charities we support. Just over £2,000 was given for Northpoint School - our main Responsible Tourism initiative - whilst the Sir Edmund Hilary Trust, Global Action Nepal, the Gurkha Welfare Trust and the Nepali children's Trust all received generous donations. We were also able to donate smaller sums to other charities including the International Porter Protection Group, the Jimmy Roberts Fund, Kinoe and the Dental Project Peru.

A huge thank you to everyone who so kindly donated to these really deserving causes.

NEW JORDAN TREK - SUCCESSFUL RECCE
26 February 2008
Day 8 The Monastery Steve Harbert, our General Manager, has recently returned from Jordan having completed a full recce of our exciting new Bedouin Paths to Petra and Wadi Rum trek. The trip begins with a memorable 5-day trek from Dana Nature Reserve, through the beautiful desert landscape along ancient wadis and over mountain passes until finally reaching the rose red city of Petra. Our itinerary allows two days to explore the temples and monuments of this wonder of the world. From Petra you travel to Wadi Rum spending a night in a Bedouin camp and trekking amongst the granite and sandstone jebels. Finally you will enjoy a chance to float in the Dead Sea and relax after your incredible desert adventure.
